Fisheries and Seafood Gloves

Seafood work keeps hands wet and cold for a whole shift, with fish slime, brine, cleaning chemicals and sharp knives and hooks close by. A glove here has to hold grip when everything is slippery, keep water out, and on the processing floor suit food handling. This guide sets out the hazards and the markings that matter, followed by every glove in the range that meets the fisheries and seafood selection rule.

Wet, cold and slippery: what boat and dock work asks of a glove

Deck work and net handling mean constant water, cold wind and rough, abrasive line. A glove that lets water through loses its warmth quickly, so a liquid proof shell or coating matters as much as insulation. Where cold is the main problem, look for an EN 511 rating on the product page, where the digits describe convective cold, contact cold and water penetration.

Grip is the other half. Fish, ice and wet gear are slippery, and a hand that slips is a hand that gets cut or caught. Textured palms and coatings shed water better than smooth ones. The winter range shows insulated options.

Processing floors, washdown and food contact

Where a glove touches food, the product page should list EU food contact approved (EN 1186). Gloves in this range that carry it are marked EU food contact approved (EN 1186). Reusable gloves for washdown and cleaning are often also tested to EN ISO 374-1, which covers protection against chemicals. Match the code letters under the marking to the cleaning agents you use, and check your safety data sheets.

Longer cuffs keep water and brine from running down the arm. For heavy washing and tank work, compare the longer gauntlets in the chemical resistant range. No single use gloves are listed on this page.

Cut risk from knives, hooks and shell

Filleting, shucking and handling shell or spines are common cut hazards. A cut resistant liner can sit under a waterproof layer, and some gloves in the range are rated for both. For a plain explanation of the cut scales, read how to read EN 388 and ANSI cut levels. When you are ready to specify, request a quote and tell us the tasks.

Fisheries crews often move between boat, dock and plant. Back to the food and fisheries overview, or see the food processing and cold storage and oil and gas pages for related offshore and cold-room guidance.

Frequently asked questions

Which gloves suit wet work on a fishing boat?

Look for a liquid proof shell or coating, a textured palm for wet grip and an EN 511 rating where cold is a factor. The product page lists the grip conditions and standards for each glove.

What does EU food contact approved (EN 1186) mean?

It means the glove material was tested under EN 1186 for use in contact with food. Gloves with this approval list it on their product page.

Do I need a chemical rating for washdown gloves?

Often yes. EN ISO 374-1 tells you the glove was tested against listed chemicals. Compare the code letters with the cleaning agents on your site.

How are the gloves on this page chosen?

The list is built by rule: gloves in the Fishing or reusable food processing subcategories, plus reusable gloves that are EU food contact approved (EN 1186) and tested to EN ISO 374-1. Single use gloves are excluded.
